If you don’t want the wood look, easy to paint. Use a good quality primer, then paint. I know most people recommend sanding first, but I painted ours decades ago without sanding first, and so far none of it has come off (I had many dreams of waking up to find all the paint had slid off into a heap on the floor!)

Wood paneling can be removed, walls prepped, and repainted. You can clean old paneling if you just want to refresh the look. You can also get a wallpaper designed to cover cracks and grooves. It is installed and then painted. It is supposed to cover grout lines in cinder block walls and has a texture. We used it in a rental house to cover up damaged sheetrock.

  • Also be sure to clean them really well first!
