The New Powder Room

We bought a 2 story home, with only 1 bathroom - downstairs... but none where the kitchen and living area are! I immediately forfeited our pantry for a small powder room! Here's how...
You can see this, and all of our other projects, on our website! www.tailgateranchtx.com
This was the entry into the pantry (and the only picture in the whole house when we bought it - so randomly AWESOME that we had to keep Mr. Tiger).
The pantry was also the home of the air conditioner, so I couldn't build a wall to hide it - but I COULD put a curtain up. First, I ripped out all the shelving and cleaned the nasty walls.
After cleaning, I painted them an army green (also found in the laundry room when we bought the home - although all of the walls were white - peculiar!).
I used all the scrap wood we took down throughout the house (some were prior baseboards and casing, some were the ugly banisters (see the first picture). I mixed a black with some paint thinner and painted it on with the brush I also used to do the stain - giving it a broken up, rustic look (I didn't want it to look "perfect"). I also wanted to have some shelving, so I found a scrap 2X8 from the deck reno, and painted it with the grey I used on the other slats.
I kept the piece of the 2X8 I cut off the end of the shelf, and stained it (and topped with a coat of poly), then added some break calipers from an old c-10 to hold it up.
You can't really see the calipers in this picture - it's a little dark. Sorry!
A pipe wrench on the shelf is our toilet paper holder. :)
Toilet went in - most importantly. :)
Add a tiny sink found on Offer Up for $20, and we've now got an upstairs Powder Room! Mr. Tiger got to stay, too! :)

Have a question about this project?
Curious as to the size of the room? I'm having a vision of a small closet becoming a bathroom:)
Me inspired? You bet. It looks like you painted some of the scrap wood and some you stained. Is that correct? I have the perfect small bathroom for this make-over. Did you do anything to the floor? Any suggestions? Thanks, Tobi
I like the idea of adding a powder room where the people gather. But I am not a fan of the curtain. I think it could be much improved if it was tightened up with a tension rod. That wouldn't address the problem of guy splashes. Perhaps sliding doors?
