We have been in our home for 10 years and we are the first owners of the home. I feel that I should be putting some kind of coating on our wood floors since they are no longer shinny. What would you recommend?

Are they real wood or laminate?

  • What have you been using to clean them? When you moved in, did they provide you with all the instructions for care and warranties on all the fixtures and appliances?

I would clean them well using Bona products and then determine what to do next.

If in fact, they do need refinishing, it is a bit of a messy process, but we'll worth the effort.

It depends on what kind of floors they are. Many people call laminate flooring ā€hardwood. Laminate and true hardwood are very different animals. If you have laminate floors cleaning is about your only option. You may be able to strip them, but check with the manufacturer first. If you do have true hardwood floors you should have a professional come and do the floors. This is not a DIY project. It would be very easy to seriously damage the flooring, and the work would end up costing you a great deal more money.

Hi Susan! So what have you been using on your floors? Sometimes buildup traps dirt and makes it look dull.

I agree with Naomie. 10 years they probably just need a good cleaning. Use Bona for hardwood floors if they are wood. Bona for laminate if laminate floors. If they need refinishing that is an easy project. Can be done in a weekend. If they need to be resurfaced that gets a little involved. Still a DIY project.
