Hi Jen, is this a new install? Or are you replacing an existing one? If replacing an existing, first, turn off the breaker take a picture of the wiring once you open up the current fixture, hook up the new exactly the same, test before you bolt it all up, then bolt it up for good. if new, see video

Do you want the fixture actually in the ceiling & hanging or just to hang from ceiling,what it the ceiling made of,is there a hole cut already,wiring??? to just hang from ceiling you can use any number of screw in hooks with mollies or toggle bolts even just plant hanger hooks if it's not too large of fixture.
