Look for a product called "wood bleach". It is oxalic acid. Use according to directions.Helpful Reply -

Unfortunately using vinegar only darkened the wood. You have nothing to loose at this point. Try bleach to lighten it. It will raise the grain and need to be sanded. Also if the original finish ( poly) is still there, you should remove it first.a new rug would be easier. If it’s in front of a door, you could cut the wood away and tile itHelpful Reply -
