Oak wood floor finish

There was moisture on a throw run and it turn floor black. I have used steel wool, vinegar, fine sandpaper and can not get it all to come out. Any suggestions, thank you

    Hi Chris, I hate to say but with everything you've tried the only thing left sounds like sanding it out and refinishing that portion of the floor.

    Look for a product called "wood bleach". It is oxalic acid. Use according to directions.

    Unfortunately using vinegar only darkened the wood. You have nothing to loose at this point. Try bleach to lighten it. It will raise the grain and need to be sanded. Also if the original finish ( poly) is still there, you should remove it first.
    a new rug would be easier. If it’s in front of a door, you could cut the wood away and tile it

    Try bleach. Do a couple of test areas first.
