Can anyone tell me what kind of flowering cactus this is?

A neighbor who was moving away gave this to me, but she didn't know what it is called. It's a long hanging type with no spines. The flower opened is pretty large 5-6 inches across.

Beautiful but very smelly to the point of drawing green "blow" flies -- as in rotten meat, or feces.

I believe this is a succulent rather than a cactus. Cacti have spines. I think Becky is right! It does look like one of those smelly ones! Lucky you to get one as a freebie!

Carrion Plant cactus. Very smelly but I love the bloom. Just be sure if you plant it to put it somewhere where you don't have to smell it but you can enjoy the bloom.

Run as fast as you can when they bloom....or don't stick your nose in the flower! :) Beautiful blooms to hold, not so much when you smell them! Carrion Plant definitely!

I had one of these for years and years. The flower is scented to attract "flies" rather than butterflies or bees. It is just natures way of filling a niche.

Yes! Succulent and beautiful smelly flowers. You must live in the right climate to have it bloom on you! I've had one in the Pacific NW for years but never a flower. I'm gonna put in in a greenhouse soon and see if that helps. Just gorgeous!

I live in Illinois and have two types of these. Mine bloom every year. One has a smaller bloom than the other. The flies love the flower.

I bought one of these at a yard sale about 6 months ago, and it started blooming recently. It is such a cool plant! The blossoms die very quickly but I have had about ten so far. Every so often I do detect a slight odor when I walk through the courtyard...not enough to make me get rid of my alien plant though :)
