I have hostas and ferns in deep shade. Both grow about 1 ~ 2 feet. Hostas bloom in late summer. Deer will eat hostas to the ground, but ignore ferns. My hostas are behind a fence.Helpful Reply -

Hostas do flower, on long stalks. Many gardeners remove them since hostas are grown mainly for foliage. Impatiens, coleus and wax or tuberous begonias, all annuals, also love shade. Shady perennials include heuchera, which has beautiful variegated leaves and slender stalks of tiny flowers in early spring.Helpful Reply -

Consider some ground cover also. Most have delicate flowers and can blossom all year long. Personally, I'm a huge hosta fan. There a many varieties.Helpful Reply -

Agree with host as, many different colors and varieties. Impatiens will sometimes do well in the shade, too.Helpful Reply -
