Backyard Corner Cleanup

We have an awkward space that holds our AC unit behind our deck and it always seems to be full of weeds and leaves - such an eye sore!
At one point we laid filter fabric in the space but didn’t do it right and it just added to the mess. This weekend we finally decided to do something about it. It only took a few hours and it made the space look SO much better.
What we used:
Filter fabric (weed barrier)
Fabric pins
River jack rocks
First we laid filter fabric as our weed barrier. We overlapped the rows of fabric by a few inches, and secured each row with fabric pins and a hammer.
Once the whole area was covered, we were ready for river jack rock! We didn’t bother weeding or cleaning up under it much.
Next we covered the whole area with river jack rock. You can use gravel, mulch, or whatever else you wanted here, but we had some old river jack left over from another project and it was the perfect amount.
The space looks SO much better and cleaner. It was such an easy project and wouldn’t cost much if you had to buy supplies. So worth it to clean up the ugly awkward corner.

Awesome! My AC is on the neighbor's driveway side which I never see because my son mows the weeds down. This is exactly the solution I need. Since I don't see it there's little point in planting anything and my neighbor won't have to look at my weed 'garden'.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I like your project a lot. It looks great. Had you thought of painting the foundation wall the same color as the house to complete the finished look? My back yard area is so untidy and ugly with old mulch, plants, rocks, weeds, numerous sized pavers - just UGLY. So, your project is inspiring me to clean it up. Thanks for the tips and sharing your great project.
