Harvesting Lobelia Seeds
Back to seed saving! Lobelia I think are some of my favorite seeds to harvest. I'm not sure why really. Maybe because there are so many per pod. They're also super teeny which somehow makes it seem more satisfying :-) Aside from all that they're really easy to grow too!
Here is a lobelia plant. All you'll need for this project is a lobelia plant, good eyesight and an envelope.
As you can see here, some of these flowers have gone over and turned brown. These are the bits you need to look at to find the pods that contain the seeds.
Here is exactly the kind of pod you're looking for. Brown and dry. These will be the pods that contain seeds.
Get at least a few because how many seeds are in each one can vary a lot. Getting plenty means you'll be sure you have enough seeds to store.
Take one of the pods, turn it upside down over a piece of white paper. Pinch and twist the pod between your fingertips.
As you can see the seeds start to fall out.
Repeat until you have the number of seeds you want to keep. There you have it. Store however you want to. Make sure what you pick will stay dry.
