Crepe Myrtle. Love them! Where I live they use them in many public spaces. Once established, drought tolerant, low maintenance and virtually pest free. Easy to grow and does not have an invasive root system. I planted one in my front yard.
Generally up north they die back to the ground. My mother planted one in Texas after growing up in New Jersey. She was surprised when it didn't die back.
Hi Franz, it's a crepe myrtle. There are some that are trees, some varieties that are bushes. They've been cultivated to have a short version and the regular tree size that can grow to about 25-30 feet. For the trees, in summer they shed their bark showcasing some of the most beautiful bark. If the trees are cut right they can be quite beautiful. They're easy to grow, but here on the gulf coast can be prone to aphids, spider mites and scale.
Consensus Agrees . . . Crepe Myrtle. A beautiful one from the pics. Pls do not commit "Crepe Murder" as they do in the south/south eastern areas. Chopping them off entirely is brutal. Pruning properly is one thing, butchering is not nice.
