Beautiful rose...love to garden......I'm forever taking cuttings off the roses and propagating them have many rose bushes to claim for it....love them.

I agree tea rose...its possible that part of it had gotten covered over too much, didn't get enough light or water in the past...Old roses like these are so resiliant! Hope you enjoy this..its beautiful! @Nancy W

Nancy W. - I forget what I plant where sometimes, too. Plus birds and insects are very good at moving seeds. I had one small garden we called the 'bird planted garden' because we only planted one flower and the rest were planted, we guessed, by birds, insects, the wind and maybe my dogs. It is a very pretty rose.

no one is helping you with your question about how to take care of it though? I know you are supposed to cut them down in the fall but I know very very little on these plants. My thumb is like blackish green ;) maybe repost it and say this is a tea rose how do I take care of it? Good luck! Pretty discovery in your garden!! It's definately one of the nicer looking roses!

Hi Nancy judging from the stem it seems to be a very unusual knock out rose. They are easy to propagate . I had some clippings from another knock out rose bush and planted the whole stems under about 2 " of dirt . I know have another knock out rose bush. Mine are pink.

That is not a knock out rose, it is a Tea variety. Lovely color, it looks like a Tropicana. Tea's require more care, but are well worth the extra effort. Try this url for more detailed info on how to care for it http://www.ehow.com/how_5187972_care-tea-roses.html When you are pruning these you want to keep in mind the shape of the rose bush. You want to keep the center fairly well opened so the plant can get plenty of light and good air circulation.

A lovely tea rose (looks very much like a Tropicana.) Tea roses require a little more care especially in the winter but they are really worth the effort. I usually mulch with leaves in the winter in PA.

Yes, I agree: Tropicana tea rose. It seems to be doing beautifully as it is. Be sure it gets good drainage. If you water it, try not to get water on the leaves.

Thank you Catherine. Will try to take real good care of this one.. Fran, we have had 8 straight days of rain and this plant is blooming like crazy.. Susan, never thought of that, hmmm, well hope they drop some more good seeds...hehehe...Christy, I would love to say my thumb is green, but...since I did not know a rose, well you can figure it out... lol...Thanks to everyone for the help.. I need it... :-)

SPEAKING OF ROSES... what ever happened to the heavily fragrant roses like my Great Aunt had when I was a little girl... I really miss Roses that have a "ROSE" (or any) fragrance. It seems like none of the "new" roses have that heady aroma of days long past!!!

Hey Darlene.. Yes, I too remember the fragrance.. I have a couple of tea olives in my yard and I wish they would bloom year around because everytime they are in bloom, it takes me back to my Grandmother's place...

It is a Rose. A very beautiful one at that. Sometimes, Nancy, nature has a way of surprising us with plants deposited in our gardens by birds, dogs, or other visiting creatures. Just accept them as gifts. I have a friend whose dog loved to eat tomatoes. Needless to say, he deposited seed and she found many plants each year which grew beautiful tomatoes.

Darlene T. - have you checked out David Austin Roses? He puts the fragrance back in. My husband grows Roses and we have some of his roses and I can smell them before I get around the corner.

Darlene, you need to look for heirloom variety roses for that kind of fragrance. Antique Rose Emporium, Rogue Valley and David Austin have lots of great rose varieties to pick from.

omg...I am not laughing at you I am laughing with you...I planted 3 pineapple lilly bulbs and then forgot. When they started coming up a few weeks ago I could not figure out what they were..so I took a pic with my phone and went to several plant places and no one could figure what they were....now that they are all the way up I felt so stupid...like "duh".......................they are cute though

Honey, That is a rose! Beautiful. Sometimes Mother Nature gives us gifts. If You do not want a rose garden there give this beauty a resting season then dig wide and deep around it carefully remove it to a new location. Remember to dig a wide but shallow hole, Then flood the hole before you place the rose in. Only replace the dirt up to root knob then water again.

@Deb and @Nancy W I must admit I now remember planting some gladiolas last year as they now basically taken over the middle of my front flower bed! I should have planted them between the two houses because we just chopped out overrun laurel Bushes that were about 15 feet tall and about the same amount wide (after chopping them back a good 6 feet a year) I should take a picture and have people help me figure what to fill with...hmmm...ditch lilies? haha

Roses come in all shapes and sizes....Hybrid tea,floribunda, climbing, minature, shrub, English, to name a few....Each is unique.... I have about 15 bushes, various varieties...it looks like A,, minature rose, or B,,one that came up from below the ground from a piece of old root. It looks healthy, no rust, blackspot or powdery mildew, water from the base, don't spray the leaves,,,,, fertilize and enjoy..
