Does Anyone Know the Name of This Flowering Plant?

It's in a friend's garden. She said the stalk shoots up from a green bush (not pictured) and the stalk requires staking.

@Pat Jacques the flowers definitely look like the yucca and the leaf at the bottom looks like the slender leaf of the yucca that sometimes bends. It will also send off shoots, so you may be able to get a sprout for your garden.

i think that it looks like a yucca also...if you take a shoot, I have been told that to have flowers on these plants, they do not mature until 5 years old...could anyone expound on this?

It is a yucca, beware they will take over ur garden, the leaves get hard and spikey...it takes a couple years to get blooms, I have been weeding them out for a year and still have quite a few of the..

Yes, yucca, also called adams needle. Mine are in full flower now. Seems the main plant dies off, then the new sprouts take over. The ones in full sun flower, there are a few in the shade, not flowering, I think the previous owner had them there when the trees were small and that garden had more sun. My new plants flower and are not 5 yrs old. I also have them in the variegated form.

Yes, it is a Yucca but we need to see the actual plant to determine which species it is. There are close to 75 different species, subspecies and hybrids. Some yucca plants take years to flower and then the orginal plant will die. Others will flower every few years. It does look like an Adam's Needle or a Weeping Yucca. I have a Spanish Bayonet in my yard that finally flowered this year. It was beautiful while it lasted. Unfortunately, the stalk that flowered will now die back.

Yucca was my first thought but could also be hosta blooms. Yucca if the leaves are sharp, hosta if the leaves are soft and pliable. Either way they are both good.

I just dug my yucca up, and they really have a strong stocky roots, tons of shoots also. Once planted they are very hard to get rid of.

If you have a place on your property that is bad for washing out, yuccas are the thing to plant. They will hold the ground in place.

In El Salvador, we ate the roots and the flowers. The roots are like a potato and we ate them in soups or steamed, sometimes fried. We ate the flowers mostly in soups, but I heard people ate them other ways as well.

I did the same thing...deal is they all bloom at the same time so makes them very easy to spot with tht tall white plummage! They really are pretty for that 10 days they bloom haha
