Hi James, You can upload pictures with your questions. If you have a picture of the plant you are trying to identify, you could post a picture and see if someone is able to tell you what it is :)
Get a book of that sort of plant. I learned about our native plants in the Pacific NW from great books about them. There are books about shrubs, flowers, veg, and do on in your area. Also, on line there will be lots of data. Or, find a knowlegable person at a nursery or plant store. ensure it is someone friendly and willing to help and tell him what you want. Maybe you can bring in some leaves and stems or photos or both. He or she will help. Maybe at your local Nextdoor. com there will be a neighbor who can do this.
Take photos and head over to your local nursery. Easy, free and quick. Or there are apps you can install on your phone.
