How can I identify plants that I have?

I need to know the common name and the botanical name of this plant and for some others that I have.

It would help to see closer photo of the flowers from all angles. It's very pretty. There are apps for smart phones to help you identify plants. I haven't tried any as I don't care to use apps. Many have spyware attached. This site might also help you too. http://www.garden.org/plantfinder/

I actually thought it looked like lipstick for a minute because the leaves appeared thick based on the photo. When you planted this was it considered an annual ? If that is the case it is a cigar plant.Mine did not grow bushy.

Do you have an iphone? There is an awesome free app called "LIKE THAT GARDEN" You just snap a photo of your plant or flower and it will identify it for you. Pretty neat! I use the app all the time at the nursery or just out walking. You can click on the little info icon to the right of the plant name and it takes you to all the plant info. I love it.

This, I believe, is a goldfish plant (its common name) whose botanical name is Columnea gloriosa . It is different from a lipstick plant in that the lipstick flowers have what looks like a lipstick case that each flower extends from (see picture someone posted above). The cigar plant has flowers that look dark on the end of each flower as though it had been "burned" like a cigar would look. The goldfish plant flower has "fins" on the sides of them and often look like leaping fish. There is one variety that look like hatchet fish with the deep bellies. You asked for common and botanical names for your plant. Do you need any other info?
