Dog the hole twice as wide and twice as deep as the size of the rootball. You will want to break up the soil that you remove so it will be easier for the bush to reboot once it's back in the ground, so replace enough soil so it will plant at the same depth as it was before. Pat gently to firm it in and stake it if necessary. I'd fertilize it with an all purpose organic fertilizer just after planting. Protect it this winter with mulch or burlap. Do not allow bark mulch to directly touch the trunk. Good luck!Helpful Reply -

Try putting the stem in half of an Irish potato then planting the half potato in a hole of potting soil leaving a little bit of potato showing. I heard this would work. I haven‘t tried it yet but I’m going to.Helpful Reply -
