How to help a sick weeping birch?

My weeping birch is sad
. Something is getting into the bark along the trunk. There are patches of holes, as if eaten, but I don't know what is eating it. What can be done?

See if you can get answers from your local extension office or a local arborist. It sounds like you may have something like a bug or even a wood pecker. -

These offices are manned by a wonderful team of master gardeners that know your local situation quite well. There's also email ( submit a photo) Q&A resources that have helped me many times. And listen for woodpeckers. Their beaks drill deep holes, plus they are after even deeper worms and bugs. 😇
