Use the soil for what you wish to plant. At the nursery or garden center the bags are clearly marked and most of them carry Miracle Gro products along with local products that do the same thing. There are specific types of soil for different plants, for instance a soil for fruit and veggies, another for cactus and succulents, another for indoor houseplants, etc. Ask for help, read the labels and you will do good! Planting and growing stuff is fun!Helpful Reply -

Just make sure you get soil for pots, not garden soil or top soil. Potting soil is made for pots with what you need to keep plants healthy in pots and not in the ground. There is a big difference. If you plan to reuse the pots year to year, make sure you replace 1/3 to 1/2 of the soil each year and to fertilize, as any fertilizer out there in the potting soil only lasts three to four months. Make sure your pots are big enough to handle the size of the mature plants. Good luck in your planting!Helpful Reply -

Here are the basics for pot planting: 1. use recyclables to fill the bottom. That way you save on dirt, and the plants really only need 6-10". 2. Dirt - Potting soil of any kind is good. Miracle Grow makes one with fertilizer already in it, making it easier for the beginner gardener! 3. Pick the plants you want and pop them in!4. water, and love it! This all works for veggies or for flowers. Most of all, have fun doing it! Don't get stressed, as there is a learning curve we've all gone through to get the gardening thing down. Enjoying what you are doing is the way to go!Helpful Reply -

What recyclables do you use? And when replacing the top 1/3 soil each year, how do you avoid disturbing the fragile roots that are there?Helpful Reply -
