How to start pot planting from the scratch? What kind of soil to use?

Use the soil for what you wish to plant. At the nursery or garden center the bags are clearly marked and most of them carry Miracle Gro products along with local products that do the same thing. There are specific types of soil for different plants, for instance a soil for fruit and veggies, another for cactus and succulents, another for indoor houseplants, etc. Ask for help, read the labels and you will do good! Planting and growing stuff is fun!

Just make sure you get soil for pots, not garden soil or top soil. Potting soil is made for pots with what you need to keep plants healthy in pots and not in the ground. There is a big difference. If you plan to reuse the pots year to year, make sure you replace 1/3 to 1/2 of the soil each year and to fertilize, as any fertilizer out there in the potting soil only lasts three to four months. Make sure your pots are big enough to handle the size of the mature plants. Good luck in your planting!
