you can if you find them unsightly, I usually just let the whole thing (leaves and stems) die off naturally and then take away the dead stuff later, usually after the first frost.Helpful Reply -

I leave the greenery standing until it turns yellow, then trim to about 3". This is supposed to help the plant retain health and lengthen its life, according to the local Master Gardener classes.Helpful Reply -

No you should leave them alone.Peonies are grown by rhizomes and should be treated the same as bulbs. They need the foliage to feed on. Once they are totally brown then cut them.Helpful Reply -

Hello Sis. Yes you can snip off the dead blooms. But I follow the "old way" of: From Spring thru Fall only prune during the months that contain the letter "R" in their name. For example: you can prune in April but not in May. Because April has an R. May does not contain the letter R. I have been using this method for many years and have had success with it. Hope this helps. Good luck.Helpful Reply -

I have Call as from my grandfather, so they are old. I always take them out in the fall. In the spring I bring them out clean them of all old roots and plant. They multiple so fast I give them away every year.Helpful Reply -
