Our local nursery here in Phoenix, AZ recommended planting in the fall when they are dormant... they spend the winter making roots and getting settled in... then come back out in the spring..... YOU should contact a nursery in the area where your father lives and ask them... they will give you the BEST advice on what type to plant, if you need two (of each) for best crop production, and when to plant them.. -

In warmer areas, you can plant bare root trees at anytime of the year. In general, planting these trees as soon as you get them home is more important than the specific time of year, but they are usually sold during the winter dormant season, which makes early spring the best time to plant. -
