Why not cut the flowers with nice long stems and give to neighbors and friends if you have too many for your on use. Cutting at this time you will always be right!Carol Griffin -

After they flower, and cut back, But on an angle, so they can sprout out again.. -

best results in the spring just as the new growth starts to emerge so the dead wood can be distinguished
