Air Plants, where did you get yours?

Question

I keep seeing all these cute decorating ideas using air plants, but where do you buy them ? I would mail order them but right now temperatures are still in the mid 90's and my mail box is like an easy bake oven. I am afraid the little plants would die before I get a chance to kill them myself, lol

I'd also check out your farmer's market or an arts and crafts festival. We often have vendors who have them at ours.

I found mine along with a glass planter to hang at a cute mom and pop shop. I did try a farmers market once and at one of the stands I was told 'we only have real plants here!' Umm, yeah.

All our local nurseries carry them. Some are already made up creatively and nest to them there is usually a BIG basket of loose ones to choose from.

I got mine on Etsy along with the globes to put them in and the stand. They also sell double globes that hang attached one from the other. I live in Florida so it's always hot here and they arrived fine in the mail.

I live here in Florida ,So I get mine from outside my Door :) Just look around, up the trees and everywhere:) the last time i got one at Burger King Parking lot it fell out from a tree in the back so I drove to scoop it up and now its a big round Ball Like a Orb of greenery!

About air ferns. Looks like you got a lot of answers to 'where to get them from' but I didn't see anyone answer the question 'how to take care of them?' You can go on line and get several answers to that question. I finally settled on a very simple care plan. About twice a week I spritz them especially where the leaf meets the stem. I take them down and spritz each one and place it upright on a kitchen towel. After an hour or so I give them a gentle upside down shake which gets rid of excess water. I have repurposed some candle holders (the kind that hold tea lights). Air ferns are so light and will stay almost anywhere you put them . I have had most of mine for over a year and they are beginning to form new ones on the existing plant. Oh yes, cats seem to like to play with them so you have to be creative in your placement !

Thank you for all the answers I will check some local nursery's before i head to the Big Box Stores. I heard misting is necessary in low humidity homes. there is also an air plant seller on ebay that sells Air plant food

CTS Airplants on Etsy has so many choices - you will be amazed at the variety. They come in great condition with specific instructions for their care. I have even received some that were in bloom. Airplants are in the bromeliad family and you can purchase food for them also from CTS - the prices are very reasonable. I don't mist my plants but found that they do better if I soak them in a bowl of water once a week for about 20-30 minutes and then lay them on a towel to dry. I can then also add the plant food to the water. Have fun with them.

I bought a BUNCH from Amazon at the Tillandia store. They came in beautiful condition and were delivered to my door. It's 105 here today so you get the picture.
