How do I grow small amounts of herbs?

How do I grow just enough herbs for 2? All the plants I see are huge and I only need enough to use 2-3 times a week. If I grow from seed in a small pot, will that keep them smaller?

I would only buy a small plant or a few seeds. Keep them trimmed as you use them.
Buying one plant of thyme, one rosemary, one parsley, etc. Will be sufficient for two people. Check out Lowe's ,when their shipments arrive. Although. They'll appear small, they'll rapidly increase in size, given correct soil, sun, drainage.
That will be fine! Just know you can snip and dry your excess herbs between cheesecloth to save for future use. I grow at least a dozen or so herbs every year and supply friends with fresh herbs whenever they want some. The excess I dry and place in jars or tins to give as gifts. I am an herb o holic, I toss cilantro or parsley in my daily salad, and toss some in when I cook. Almost everything gets some sort of fresh herb. Granted I am in zone 9 and can grow outside in ground or pots almost year round.
