How much water should I give a plant that is dormant during winter?

I have a potted Bougainvilea in my cool room in the dormant stage. It still has faded bloom from this past Summer on it. I was told to keep in a cool garage or room during Winter and water it once a month to keep it from 'dying'. It never says how much water. Its in a 7" pot.

    Hi Anthony,

I would just keep the soil moist/damp and let it take it from there.

  • It should be slightly damp. Stick your fingers in a couple inches down into the pot. If dry, take to the sink and dive it a good drink, then let it drain thoroughly then put back in your cool room. If damp, check in a few days.

water from the bottom -- pour the water into the tray ... if you water from the top, it encourages shallow root growth in potted plants ... unless you DRENCH ( water to the point where water runs out the drain holes ), then don't let 'sit' in the excess water ..
