ALMOST EVERYTHING ROTS IF YOU USE IT OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, EVEN RAILROAD TIES. WOULD SUGGEST USING CONCRETE BLOCK, PAINTING IT OR COVERING IT WITH WOOD IF THAT 'S THE LOOK YOUR WANT.Helpful Reply -

If you have termites, wood is not the answer for containing soil in raised beds. Do not use treated wood either as it will leach into the soil. The only way to use it, is to plant vegetables no closer than 10 inches away from treated wood. You can use cement blocks or just mound your soil. My rows were 3 ft.wide and 20 ft long.Helpful Reply -

Use cheap untreated wood and be diligent about inspecting for termites... expose them as needed and the birds can get them.... Resign yourself to rebuilding it from time to time. HD carries 1x10 in 8-10 foot lengths, called Ledger Board... perfect for the job and Much cheaper than finished construction materials.Helpful Reply -
