Kitchen Desk Area Makeover

We recently purchased our first home and the project list is miles long!!! My first project to tackle was my desk area in the kitchen. It was very uninspiring! I painted the cabinet with a custom mix of Annie Sloan's chalk paint, Old White & Provence. Topped it off with a dark wax and sealed it with General Finishes top coat. I wanted to spend as little money as possible so, I used what paints I had on hand.
This is what the before looked like. Sorry for the phone picture and I started painting when I remembered to take the "before" picture!
I still want to rip out the counter top and do the wood planks as the counter top but I'll wait to do that part.
I looked at several different shelving options and wasn't finding the right thing. I wanted a chunky farmhouse style shelf that didn't cost a fortune!! It had to be deep as well to hold a 10" box. I found the perfect thing...a 2"x6"x12' Home Depot will cut wood for free so, if you have your measurements you won't have to pull out the saw. I planked two cuts together to create a deep shelf.
