Midcentury Modern Desk and Chair Makeover

So what would you do if someone offered to give you this desk for free? Run? Take on a challenging restoration? If the title of this post didn't already give it away, I decided to restore this mid century desk.
It was missing a leg and someone had nailed a stick to the side. Here's a close up.
This desk was filthy and in very poor condition, but I loved the great lines and decided to take a shot at restoring it. I am so glad I did! This is how it looks now.
First, I purchased a replacement leg and brass cap on line. That stick had to go! The wood on top was deeply stained and burned, so I decided to prime and paint it. I used General Finishes milk paint in snow white. I stripped and sanded the drawers and uncovered some beautiful wood. I stained them with General Finishes gel stain in java.
I sealed the entire piece for durability. The wood on the drawers is so pretty now.
If you are curious, here is what the chair looked like before. I picked it up at the Goodwill for a couple of bucks. I think it is a perfect mate for this desk now.
