Old is the New NEW!
Sarah from Honour Design let her fans choose the colors for this piece! She went with Jitterbug and Happy Hour for a pretty, two-toned masterpiece.
I love that everyone is on the upcycling band wagon! It’s awesome to see so many people creating old pieces into new instead buying a brand new piece. Better for the environment and your wallet!
For this project, I decided to ask Facebook what colour to paint. I tend to pick neutral colours and wanted to see what everyone else wanted. I had a couple fun limited edition colours from Country Chic Paint so it was the perfect time for me to try something new! The popular vote from Facebook was Jitterbug and Happy Hour.
To start, I first painted the entire piece in a coat of Jitterbug. This is a gorgeous dark, moody, teal colour (love it!).
Next, I painted two coats of the lighter tone, Happy hour over the body of the piece. I kept the drawers the darker shade of Jitterbug for contrast and added one more coat of paint on them as well.
After waiting a day, I went in and started distressing the main body of the piece to let some of the Jitterbug shine through the lighter colour. I found that in some areas I didn’t get to see as much colour as I wanted with the sanding. I went in with more of the darker colour Jitterbug to add more accents in the crevices and niches. I did the opposite on the drawers- adding some of the light Happy Hour with dry brushing to create some depth.
After waiting another day, I finished the entire project with Country Chic Paint Tough Coat to make the piece extra durable. For the hardware, I choose some gorgeous detailed cup pulls and recovered the stool with a fabric that mirrored the jewel tones in dark teals of Jitterbug (a lucky find at the fabric store!)
I love how these two limited edition colours from Country Chic Paint worked together and gave this piece a new life from old to new.
Until the next project…XOXO
