That depends on what you want to store in your closet. Seriously, there is no better answer than that. I'm a fan of Closet Maid, having just finished refurbing my master bedroom closet. They have a system that hangs everything from a hanger bar on the wall and as your needs change it is pretty easy to change configuration. You will likely be surprised at how much you end up spending, I always am, but it is worth it.

Space size will determine if it will be a walk in closet or reach in . What kind of closet will it be? Coat, storage, Linen, Bedroom,or overflow. Once you have determined its purpose you can focus on the organization method. Like rods shelves, bins, hangers and what not. Good luck

I would first make a list of everything that will be kept in the closet and then put the items in categories. For instance, copy paper (office supplies), coats, ski wear, (winter) or if you only have a few items ( Seasonal). Once that's done depending on what will be going in the closet, I'd install the proper fixture. Shelving, hang rods for clothing etc.
