Its a modified Mansard roof. You need to remove the existing siding. Make any repairs to the sheathing. Wrap the it all with house wrap. Then install the tin.Helpful Reply -

I see your dilemma. This is going to be a LOT of work. Have a roofer check it before you do anything. If it's old enough and worn down, insurance might cover some of the cost for professional replacement.Helpful Reply -

Susan, OregonI had a very similar house, I had roofers tear off the cedar shakes, and replace with regular roofing shingles. You will most likely find that under the current shingles there is a framework just ready to put tin on. You may have to replace some sheeting if they are damaged. My framework was almost perfect, great considering that it was the original roof 40 years old. My roofers did it all in 2 days.Helpful Reply -
