My dining room table had been ruined by gorilla glue. I loved the table, so I borrowed a sander and sanded the surface to a rough finish, not sure what I would do with it.
Then I found this refinished Ikea cabinet. This was my inspiration. I matched the paint color (Sarsaparilla) and painted my table. In between each of the 3 coats, I lightly sanded with 220 grit sandpaper. Then the trouble began.
I purchased minwax polycrylic. Mistake!! I tried 3 methods of applying it, but each time I was left with noticeable brush marks or tiny bubbles. I then turned to this site, tired of sanding off poly!
Someone suggest I try General Finishes High Performance Water Based Topcoat.
The first coat, applied with a foam roller, was another disaster. Back to the sander. Before giving up I decided to check True Value Hardware. There I was directed to a painting pad, and it worked!!
Two coats with light sanding in between and I have a beautiful dining room table that matches my new file cabinet.
Next up adding to the collection with a newly found Ikea cabinet!
