IKEA have been selling their small wooden drawers for many years in various forms. I have had bought a few myself over the years. There's one full of shoe cleaning equipment and spare football boot studs in the downstairs closet. One in the DIY cupboard full of nails and screws and a beautifully map decorated one in the hallway for stamps and other postage related paraphernalia.

These particular small wooden drawers I revamped, have been in the playroom undecorated for years. I used to use them to store all the odd pieces of Lego, bouncy balls and bits of toys.

I wanted to reallocate them to my study, which is part of the lounge. That's why I decided to give them a stylish and glamorous makeover so that they would fit in with my decor.

These were the IKEA Moppe mini drawers that were all in one line. The curtains in my lounge where in velvet and I had some off cuts of that material so I decided to use it for this revamp.

The first thing I did was paint the drawers a colour to match the velvet fabric. I also covered the outer wood with a dark wood wax to give it a more aged antique look.

Using a ruler measure the center point of each drawer front and mark it with a pen. Then drill a hole in this spot large enough for the knob screw. But don't put the knobs on yet.

I used little brass knobs for these drawers.

For the next step I carefully measured the front face of the drawers and cut velvet squares to match. I find that if you use a rotary cutter, you get a much more accurate cut than scissors.

Using a precise superglue, apply a small amount around the front edge of the drawer. Then carefully stick down the cut velvet. The glue will stop the velvet from fraying.

Then use a sharp point to make a hole in the velvet where the knob should go. Then screw the knobs in place.

So that I knew what was in each drawer before opening it, I made some cute labels for them. I just got some small tags and painted them with watercolor ink to match the color of the drawers.

The drawers now fit in with the rest of my decor and provide handy storage for little office area in the lounge. For more amazing ideas on different ways to revamp mini drawers and sizes check out this round-up.
