I want to do this in my kitchen.

However, between the cabinet doors is a piece of wood that goes from the top to the bottom- I want to remove it so it looks open and airy like this picture. Is it necessary? Will my cabinets start to sag over time without that beam in the middle?

Slightly off topic, I know but... while a beautiful look (I love it too!), just ask yourself if you're prepared to be cleaning cooking grease & greasy dust off everything in there at least once a year as well as off dinnerware in between as you grab things you only use maybe once a month.
