A close friend picked this table up for me, from the side of the road. I knew it had too much damage on the top to just be painted, but it had sound structure and I decided to make it a stool.
First step was to clean and sand the entire table, then clean again. Normally, I only sand the rough spots, but since this table had been outside for a bit, I wanted a fresh start with it. My helper, Winchester, then came to inspect my work.
Next I put 3 layers of my custom antique white chalk paint and then sealed in 4 layers of polyurethane.
I found a great deal on fabric, in the remnant bin (like Grammy always said I would), from Jo-ann's. I also picked up a nice piece of padding.
Once the table was dry and set, I flipped it over onto the padding and fabric, which was face side down.
I find it's best to start on one side, in the middle, working your way out. Then I move to the opposite side and do the same. Repeat until all 4 sides are done. When it comes to the corners, I also start in the middle and then fold the sides over, like "hospital corners" on sheets. I find this to be the easiest method for me, especially on rounded corners, and I like the overall look it gives. Make sure to tuck the raw side of your fabric under, so there's no fraying.
