My Kitchen Re-Do On A Budget! Love How It Turned Out!

I felt like I was living in a time warp with this old dated kitchen! Over a two year period I was able to completely update my kitchen on a reasonable budget!
This is how my kitchen looked originally. Cheap slippery tiles on the floor. I did the "splits" more than once on these tiles! After 20 years I was hating the light oak cabinets and didn't like the way they went all the way to the ceiling. The boxed in fluorescent light was dated and hideous. I knew I couldn't afford to spend a lot and so decided to do a re-do on a budget.
My grand babies love the saddle stools too.
Kitchen now. I love the way it turned out. I took down the faux upper front of the cabinets to create a ledge and an updated look. All the cabinets were stripped and stained a dark brown. I purchased new hardware including hinges for them (there had never been any knobs on them) and love the look of the polished nickel! Of course the new stainless appliances and replacing the boxed in light with a stainless center island vent hood made a huge difference as well. I bought the hood vent on ebay as a slightly damaged 2nd for $275. I still haven't found a thing wrong with it (supposedly a dent at the top somewhere). It cost me $400. to strip, stain and put hardware on the cabinets. I bought multi colored real slate flooring and had it put down over concrete board. This expense was $1800. including materials and labor. I got the real granite counter tops on a closeout (luckily they had enough for my kitchen) for a total of $2200. (materials and labor)

For less than $5,000 plus $3500 for appliances, I have a brand new kitchen with everything that I wanted!!

I also love my new saddle stools! My grandkids love them too.
It's hard to get a good photo of the entire kitchen but this one better shows the color of the dark stained cabinets and the nickel hardware.

Thanks! I found a guy who made log furniture and he built them inexpensively. Then I search craigslist for 2 saddles since I already had one from my horse that I wasn't using.
