How to remove metal strip between backsplash & countertop

I would like to replace the laminate on old cabinets. This metal strip has grooves where laminate slides in to be held flat. I believe to put laminate on top of the existing, this strip would be in the way.

    Are you able to use a small pry bar or even a small screw driver, that is what I would use to remove it.

    I have used a small screw driver and started in a corner hat no one would notice if it didn’t remove easily.

    Carefully pry it off starting near countertop. This prevents damage to the wall above the old back splash. The previous laminate backsplash with metal trim went out of style in the 80s. My recommendation is to create a backsplash with tile. A single 6" square row looks nice and is easy to do.

    You could always leave it in place and cover cabinets with Contact instead?
