The latest and easiest way is to buy vinyl tile decals that peel and stick on top of tiles. You can buy them in many different patterns and colors to dress your kitchen up or down. They are very affordable, too. -

Rustoleum makes a specific paint/product just for tubs and tiles in bathrooms, I hear it works great!
