Sorry the pain will not adhere properly, light sanding with fine sandpaper dusting off is needed preparation before painting

    Hello Arleen,

Yes, you can use Chalk Paint and then either clear or antique Wax over the top. Or for a more robust finish, use ESP (Easy surface Preparation) Then Undercoat, then Topcoat of Satin finish or you could use Gloss Paint.

You will need to lightly sand to remove any gloss and roughen for paint.

  • Yes, you can use chalk paint. After painting one coat, lightly send and add another layer of paint. Finish with clear wax to secure the paint.

I saw an article about using the Annie Sloan chalk paint which doesn't need prior sanding, but the author said the paint job didn't hold up very well and she wouldn't do it again.

Not if you want a professional looking finish. Just remember the result is dependent on the labor put in or the dollars spent to have it done correctly. Good luck.
