Our cabinets are stained, we aren't sure we want to paint them. But also not really sure we want to sand them down either. The cabinets are very old, we can't even get new handles for them as none will fit.
Also, any ideas on redoing the counter as well - can u paint them? Thank you

I'm not sure what you can do with your cabinets, but have you thought about epoxy countertops? There are many companies, but this one has some good videos to show how to do it.

I put good-quality wallpaper on some bathroom cabinet doors. Anagalypta wallpaper can be painted. too. You could add plain or decorative wood moulding around the wallpaper so as to avoid having to paper the entire door. You could just leave the base cabinets and the rest of the door outside the wallpaper edges alone. Rustoleum hammered spray paint will update your hardware. The wallpaper can be removed down the road if you like.

You can get colored varnish-like products. I had cabinets from 1939 and after stripping and sanding they wouldn't absorb stain because the wood was so hard!

What i did was resurface my cabinets with thin luan. Lowes has 4x8ft sheets of it. Measure and remeasure . Lowes will cut it for you, if you dont have a saw. Then stain and/or poly your wood. To attach to cabinets, glue or nail them in place. Finish with trim.

Rustoleum makes a refinishing kit. My hubby dud some if our cabinets and they look great.
