Depends on what you are starting with and your definition of "update". No one has unlimited money to spend. Every kitchen remodel has a budget and what you can do depends on the size of that budget and what you want or need. Many Hometalkers paint their kitchens or replace hardware and consider that to be "updated". Not a lot of money to paint cabinets and counter tops but a lot of work to do it well.
Paint does wonders and is inexpensive. Also i would add a few pops of colors and if you want to change the floors on a budget i have some great idea's!
