What is best for my kitchen, tile, wood, or concrete flooring

I would be tempted to redo the wood or go vinyl tiles, etc.

As a fellow retiree, may I advise that you consider how much time you spend in the kitchen.

Concrete and tile floors are beautiful but unforgiving to walk or stand on for any length of time. Terrible for the feet and legs. And dropped things don’t bounce.

so let me give you some of your cheapest options...

paint/stain your concrete. It can actually be really pretty. Depending on the size floor you have to work with. It will either look intentional or like an accident. If it is a small space then I would not recommend this option.... it may end up looking accidental. If you can include a dining area with it, it will look great. This is something you can do yourself.

linoleum. It looks great. Lots of options. Many people however don’t like the sound of walking on it. It doesn’t bother me at all. And it’s super cost effective. Many places include Installation with purchase of linoleum.

tile. Can be very inexpensive, but it depends on the tile you choose. I would recommend being upfront with a store rep before even browsing options. Tell them your budget and ask them to show you options for you. Don’t even look at others. You will find something you like. Don’t give yourself the chance to fall in love with the slate and you won’t be sad passing it by. Depending on where you purchase your tile, you may or may not need to arrange for tile installation yourself.

reparing your parket. Oh my heart hurts for you and your beautiful floor. Get a couple bids. Keep it if you can. but it isn’t a person. It’s a floor covering and you need to be able to live with it.

This is my personal opinion only. Since I have had several back surgeries and now arthritis in my feet, my vote is for something "soft" underfoot. As much as I love tile, even heated, it is a hard surface to stand on for long periods of time. Same goes for concrete, it is hard on your back and limbs. My vote is for wood floors. If you can repair your existing parquet floors and restain, you can save a ton of money. While a deep dark finish is beautiful and chic, keep in mind you will see every spec of dust. If you have any pets, hair /fur will be far more noticeable. Every scratch or ding will need to be repaired immediately. Better keep touch up stain handy. If you are fussy, it will drive you nuts. I suggest a more medium toned finish which can still look elegant but hide a multitude of sins. There, that is my 2 copper clad cents worth! 🤗
