My fire place looks cheap it needs a make over!

It's not real big as far as how far it sticks out. It's brick painted white. The room colors are olive green,burgundy,gold, with oat tables .

Maybe two tone it. Does it have a mantle. You could stain the wood mantle, paint it a natural color, such as wheat , oat etc... But I really don't know so here is a link http://www.bhg.com/decorating/color/basics/color-and-interior-brick-tones/ -

The problem may be the white brick with the darker colors. Tone it down with a soft tan or taupe, even something similar to your tables, so it doesn't overpower everything else. -

They have some brick pens and Sharpie makes an oil paint pen. You could tape it off into the exact brick lines and use a good gold color. The oil paint gold from Sharpie is great it can also be easily removed with alcohol.
