Tabletop Fireplace Reviews

Has anyone had experience with a table top fireplace and care to share that experience?
Update: Much has been mentioned about the safety of tabletop fireplaces. Proper precautions should always be taken around any open flame, be it a candle or incense. While they naturally are not designed to add the room in entirety, it really adds a new glow to your setting. I've seen these fireplaces places on tabletops outside at restaurants, they really help to set the tone with a romantic ambiance.

Discussing the fuel type, they use a bio-ethanol fuel that is sometimes referred to as "gel" fuel. This is the same type of fuel that's used in bio-ethanol fireplaces. From what I've read, the actual burning time varies dramatically between brands. FireGlo and Real Flame seem to have the highest review ratings based on the quality of burn and the duration so that's something to keep in mind.

It's a great alternative to candles which are great but the look of an open fire is completely awe-inspiring. A friend of mine purchased one of these recently and it made me want to revisit this post. I have to say, they are even more amazing in person.

Something else to consider is the smell from the gel fuel is quite intense and unpleasant.

@Sylvia Ruiz you should be only using "Bio-Ethanol" Fuel, it is an eco-friendly plant based fuel that has zero off gassing and no unpleasant smells.
