This bookcase makeover has made such a difference! It actually started out as an old brown bookcase I'd gotten for free but painted white a long time ago. It looked better after I painted it white but it still wasn't what I was looking for. I knew I could make this bookcase look expensive with just a few simple steps. My husband Jason helped me complete this DIY project, and I'm so thankful for his help.

Here's a look at the before:

Step 1: Add legs

To add legs to the bottom of the bookcase, you'll need to pick four out at your local home improvement store. You'll also need four corner brackets so you can screw them in.

Here's Jason screwing in the corner brackets to each corner.

Once those are secured, you can easily screw in each corner leg.

Step 2: Install crown molding

To install crown molding, you'll need a miter saw. Measure the three sides that show on your bookcase (the front and two sides) and then make 45 degree angles with your miter saw.

Hammer a small nail into the corners to secure the crown molding.

Step 3: Caulk

Caulk the crown molding and the bookcase.

Step 4: Paint

I decided to paint mine two-toned. I used another coat of white paint on my bookcase and then used a gray paint for the back panels. I used Behr paint in the color sterling for the back panels.

Here's the end result:
