The Painted Sofa

I'm not typically a fan of painting upholstery...I feel like new fabric is always the better option. In this case, the lovely French Provincial sofa was only $20, but with all that gorgeous tufting, reupholstering it was nearly $1000. Considering this couch was for use in my paint studio, I did not want to have to be super careful about it getting paint on it, getting dirty, etc...paint seemed like a good option. Plus, if it went horribly awry, it was only $20!
The creamy fabric wasn't bad, but it was in rough shape...some stains, some wear on the arms... (this is my son's idea of "working")
We used Amy Howard Home's One Step Paint (Atelier is the color) and got great coverage! Not gonna lie...getting the paint into all the folds was a bit of a challenge!
The finished product feels much like leather...it's soft and somewhat pliable...and no, it doesn't rub off on your clothes!
I made new cushion covers out of grey denim (because I washed the original cushion covers and they SHRANK!) but this photo is from before they were finished. It's been about 6 months or so now...and the paint is still perfect (and it gets softer all the time!)
