Dingy Goes Homey: A Living Room Makeover

We bought our home a little over a year ago and have been renovating it from the very beginning.
Here is the living room before any renovations went underway.
And here it is now. As you can see, the window to the left of the fireplace was nixed. We switched out the big window. We also beefed up the mantel and trim around the fireplace.
Before, the opening into the entryway was fairly narrow...
And now the opening to the entryway is much wider, with beefier trim.
We also opened the area between the kitchen and living room and dining room. We added custom trim around the openings.
We love love love the open concept that we have now. It's a lifestyle that we always wanted to have in our home. Check out my blog for more pictures and information.

It looks great! My first thought when I saw the original fireplace wall was 'that window has to go!' It just looked so crowded & lopsided, so I'm glad you got rid of it!

Did you have any issues with the main load bearing beams for support. I love this idea but but the beams have scared me away from opening it up
