Turn plain cork board into a decorative piece using the World Map Wall Art Stencil. This crafty DIY items will help you keep organized and dress up a room. Our craft stencil patterns are perfect for projects like this. Come see how we customized a plain cork board using a fun stencil pattern and paint. Let's take a look...
Now we are going to walk through the steps for completing this project. First we rounded up the supplies needed which included a large piece of rolled cork, decorative trim to make a frame, a clam shell cabinet pull, push pins, a two inch dense foam roller, a stencil brush, paper plate, paper towel, Benjamin Moore Paint, and World Map Stencil.
First we built a frame using the decorative trim to fit the cork board and painted it using Benjamin Moore's New York State of Mind 805. Then we set up our craft space for stenciling. We sprayed the stencil with repositionable spray adhesive.  When the adhesive felt slightly tacky but not overly wet (about 5 minutes after spraying) we then placed it on top of the cork board.
We used the medium size Map Stencil for this project and it fit perfectly in cork board frame. When we were comfortable with the placement of the stencil, we patted it down. The adhesive helped hold it in place. We used a two inch dense foam roller to paint the map pattern. We rolled the roller into the Benjamin Moore White Dove paint and then rolled off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel.  Too much paint will cause the design to bleed.
We used a stencil brush to fill in the smaller areas of the stencil.
When we were happy with how our design was painted, we peeled back the stencil to reveal the pattern.
Now that our stenciled cork board was complete we wanted to enhance it with a couple of small details. We had purchased a clam shell cabinet pull from Home Depot and sprayed it with gold paint. Using the screws that it came with, we affixed it to the cork board.
See those small sparkly flags? We made those too and they were super simple to create.  We purchased washi tape in metallic pink and gold.  Then we took classic map push pins and wrapped the tape around the edge. The tape was trimmed into the shape of flag. Easy peasy!
Let's see how the whole project turned out!
We love how the painted World Map Decal enhanced this plain cork board and turned it into something super special.
