Look familiar? If you don't have at least 1 drawer like this in your home, give yourself a great big, gold star. Tackling organization one space at a time is a reasonable goal and you can do it!
Once you dejunk (let's face it, we all have kitchen stuff we never use!), get out that measuring tape and measure the drawer/drawers you want to create the dividers for.
Think about how you want your drawer laid out. You can find sample layouts and instructions on our blog here. We found that using 1/2 inch plywood gave us the stability we were looking for. Rip the plywood sheet into 3' lengths and cut your dividers.
Create channels for your dividers to slide into using a table saw. See instructions on our blog post. Adjust saw and repeat until you have 1/2 inch channel. You can sand your pieces to remove rough edges and even use some poly if you want it more washable.
For this particular drawer (silverware), we used channels and tension to hold our dividers in place. After one row was set, we measured and cut the remaining pieces individually since tension is important. For other drawers, we just dividers that ran the length of the drawer.
Now everything has a place!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
You show lots of stuff and then you show it fixed with silverware.
We can all sort silverware.....what about organizing all the stuff you show in the picture. Totally different
I have one like that, I bought it. But I'm like everyone else, where's the junk drawer?
