Being an Organizing Consultant - (help individuals and businesses design systems and processes using organizing principles and transferring skills) has required me to purchase a lot of products for myself and my clients. A lot of times these products tend to be high in price and not needed. Because everything DIY is in my blood, I wanted to make simple containers/bins/organizers that anyone at any level of creativity could create.

Check out my video above to learn how to create your own DIY storage solutions using rope as the main material! Below are also step by step instructions.

Lets do it!

Step 1: Cut off all the cardboard box flaps.
Step 2: Measure and mark the area where you will be putting 2 holes for the handle.

Step 3: Take your scissors and puncture the box creating 2 holes where you added your markings.
Step 4: Feed your rope through the holes.
Step 5: Burn the ends of the rope.
Step 6: Tie the ends of the rope into a knot.
You're Done! These bins are easy to make and can fit just about anything -depending on the size of the box icon
Suggested materials:
  • Card board boxes
  • Black Rope (Handle piece 14in on large bin)   (Walmart)
  • Old oatmeal canisters

I also use boxes but I cover them with wrapping paper or contact paper. You can even use the children's art work!

I am always looking for storage ideas. I hate clutter. Reuse of what we have on hand or acquire inexpensively is even better. I liked your rope trim idea.

if I did this I would have to cover the boxes with some pretty shelf paper.
