How to Make Your Own DIY Farmhouse Coffee Cup Stand

Wood Scraps

We used wood scraps left over from other projects. Like the one from Amazon, we needed four, square pieces of wood in graduated sizes to make the base on our DIY coffee cup stand.

For the base, we used various scrap pieces that were all one inch thick, and cut them into the following sizes:

• One 6.5 inch square
• One 5.5 inch square
• One 4.5 inch square
• One 3.5 inch square

Plus, we also cut one 2″x 2″ piece of wood to 11 inches in length for the center post.

Sand the corners and edges

I wanted the edges to be more rounded, so I sanded them using an orbital sander.

Wood Glue & Screws

Then, we glued the bottom three layers of the base together with Gorilla glue, and clamped until dry. This made it easier to work with while we pre-drilled a hole from the bottom up and insterted a 4-inch screw right through the center post.

We only inserted the screw through three layers of the base, because it wasn’t long enough to go through all 4. We then added the fourth piece of wood to the base, glued, and then screwed it in with short screws in the 4 corners.

Paint, Distress, Wax, Buff

After the assembly part was done, I painted the whole stand with white paint, sanded to distress it, and then gave it a coat of Amy Howard’s Light Antique Wax. This provided a layer of water resistance (since it’s going to be sitting on the kitchen counter), and also gave it more of an aged effect.

On the Bottom

On the bottom, I added four felt circles to protect my granite countertops, and then used my wood burning tool to label it with our initials and the date.

The Hooks

Finally, I got out these antique coat hooks that we found in my mom’s things. She had a note in with them stating they came from inside the closets of the 100+ year-old house where she grew up in southern Iowa. Instead of having them packed away in a box where I will never see them, now they are displayed beautifully on my kitchen counter (right next to the coffee pot where I spend a lot of time! 🤣), so I can enjoy them every day. ❤️

The finishing touch was to use my cup stand to display these vintage mugs that I inherited from my mom. She wrote on the bottom of one that they belonged to her mother and grandmother.

When it was all done, I poured myself a cup of coffee in one of my mom/grandmother/great-grandmother’s mugs, and stepped back to appreciate our creation. I love it when an idea comes together with a piece of history, a family keepsake, or a memory. These are the best projects of all. 💕 🏠 ☕️
