It is the simplest of games and one that everyone knows: Noughts and Crosses. This game can be played with pen and paper. But crafting your own version of it is much more fun! It also means you can play the game time and again. In this DIY project, we craft owls and hedgehogs. But you can let your imagination run wild and create your favourite animal. Get started with clay, paper and items you’ve picked up in the woods to craft this fun garden game.

Endresult
Step 1

Using the clay, form 5 little hedgehogs . Flatten the bottom side on each.

Step 2

Gently pinch the narrow end and insert 2 little brads to form the eyes. Insert one large brad for the nose.

Step 3

Find some thin sticks and snap them into even lengths. Insert the sticks into the hedgehogs’ torsos to form the spikes and leave everything to dry out thoroughly.

Step 4

Find 5 pine cones of a similar size that can stand up without support. We will use these to make the owls.

Step 5

Cut or punch two small circles out of a piece of scrap paper and stick some googly eyes onto them.

Step 6

Cut out two little birds from the paper that’s been folded in two. These will ensure that both birds are the same size.

Step 7

Finally, cut out a small orange square. Cut through the square diagonally to create an even triangle for the beak.

Step 8

Stick everything down well and leave to dry thoroughly.
